A design-based curriculum: empowering students in the modern era

By Tulika Puri Katyal

October, 2019

In today's technology-driven, boundary-less world, where information is available at the fingertips, true learning takes place at the intersection of human experience and cognition.

On the one hand, we are experiencing academic perfection with students securing 99% (and even 100%) marks and academic inflation (with more students opting for Master's and Doctoral degrees). But on the other hand, some of the world's top organisations are looking for unique skill sets with no requirements of a degree!

Tulika Puri Katyal was interviewed by the Fablook magazine

August, 2018

Fablook spoke to leading architect and serial entrepreneur Tulika Puri Katyal about her current projects and what keeps her going.

FAB: As a serial entrepreneur, what do you find the most exciting about the world of design?

Tulika: The design industry in India is booming like never before. This is an industry whose market is estimated to be in the range of INR 188.32 bn! As an antrepreneur and educator, what interests me is the fact that this industry will need as many as 60,000 skilled personnel to realise its projected potential. Estimates show that only a fifth of the design market is currently tapped.

As someone who understands design, I believe design should be part of our everyday lives. It is a great solution provider for both simple and complex challenges one comes across in daily living.

Gurugram to get Center for Design and Innovation

March 9, 2018

First of its kind in India, the centre will aim to bring Indian design expertise, technology and industry requirements together to make products of the future.

The objective is to make India a hub for design in the South-Asian market. “CDI will fill the missing gap between the industry and the academia.

This will cement India as the hub of design in the Asia-Pacific region”, said Tulika Puri Katyal, Founder, Centre for Design and Innovation. "We expect ideas around design to grow from D2B (design to business) and B2D (business to design) spaces, in order to meet new opportunities," she said.

The campus will be set up in Gurugram and will offer courses for freshers, mid-as well as senior-level professionals in design thinking, innovation, strategy and management.
